11am-4pm. 2011 is International Year of the Forest. Come to The Manchester Museum to see our fruit trees in the Greenhouse and our massive 300 million year old fossil tree stump. Find out how trees live, how to tell them apart and about university research on trees. You can also make a tree to take home. Part of Manchester Science Festival.
1pm: Guided walk - Inside Outside Manchester Museum, The Secret Life of Trees
From the trees that dinosaurs rubbed up against to the trees that feed us and decorate our lives, find out more about these gentle giants. We'll look at fossil trees that shot up to 20m in 15 years and provided the coal that fired Manchester's Industrial Revolution. We'll look at trees that have been used for building aeroplanes and trees that provide our breakfast refreshment. Come and hear the secrets of the trees.
