Refugee Art - Representation, diversity and commonality
A selection of local and national speakers and artists will explore some of the key issues within the area of art, displacement and refugees. An open public discussion with performance on the eve of the Platforma national conference on arts and refugees, including selected speakers and artists from the conference along with local speakers such as Denise McDowell from the Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit, and Iranian artist Flora Alexander from Glasgow.
Chaired by Kooj Chuhan (director of Virtual Migrants, artist and community consultant for museums), the discussion will be fused with a semi-improvised performance in the style of the ongoing ‘Passenger’ series of work by Virtual Migrants (www.virtualmigrants.com/passenger). Performers will include Tracey Zengeni, Sai Murai, Mazaher, Maya Choudhury and Aidan Jolly.
