DESCRIPTION:The more firms are challenged to consider their environmental
impacts\, the more they are asked to introduce new products and process
es that reduce or avoid harm on the environment. \nAs production is spre
ad among different firms – each responsible for different steps of the v
alue chain – achieving sustainability is even more challenging. \nIndeed
\, it requires the effective collaboration and the alignment among compa
nies that have different strategic incentives and even a different perce
ption about the sustainability challenge. \nThe presentation is based on
the in-depth analysis of environmental process innovation recently deve
loped by firms located in the tannery district of Arzignano (Italy) in t
he context of the European Project “Greenlife”. \nLeveraging on the lite
rature that focused on tensions in corporate sustainability\, it highlig
hts what are the tensions involved in the development of environmental i
nnovation when considering\nthe global value chain level and it suggeste
d the importance of collaboration among different partners and the role
of local proximity to try tackling them.
