DESCRIPTION:This week's AAGP speaker is Professor Tony Doré (OBE)\, Senio
r Advisor to Exploration Management\, Equinor and Honrary Professor\, Un
iversity of Durham.\n\nThe rifts systems bordering the North Atlantic ho
use some of the world’s most prolific petroleum systems. Additionally\,
the region has been a testing ground \nfor rift and continental margin
models since the advent of plate tectonics. It contains abandoned and t
 runcated rifts\, hyperextended basins\, magmatic \nand magma-poor contin
ental margins and transform margins\, many of which have become the glob
al “type areas” for study. In this presentation\, a \ncareer’s interest
in North Atlantic evolution and exploration will be harnessed to examin
e some key concepts including:\n\n•	Reactivation of old structures throu
gh time\, from the “Wilson Cycle’ to the smaller scale.\n•	Different typ
es of continental margins in the North Atlantic area\, and their relatio
nship to the break-up process.\n•	Magmatism and the mantle plume concept
\n•	….and what this all means for petroleum resources.\n\nThese topics a
re all areas of uncertainty despite a huge body of research and signific
ant exploration activity. The key controversies will be \nframed\, rece
nt ideas reviewed\, answers suggested\, and lively debate encouraged!\n
