DESCRIPTION:As stem cell science enters the clinic\, transnational differ
 ence in regulation may encourage health tourism\, highlighting the quest
 ions about safety and efficacy of treatments\, justice and access to new
  therapies\, and the appropriate response of policy makers. In this cont
 ext\, Mexico has emerged as one of the favoured places for medical touri
 sts to obtain unproven stem cell therapies\, in what follows it will be 
 called stem cell interventions\, which are commonly hazardous\, yet easi
 ly available. In this talk\, I will explore the regulatory landscape und
 er which these interventions have arisen\, which has led to a flourishin
 g stem cell tourism market in Mexico. It is suggested that the ineffecti
 ve enforcement of available legal provisions broadly applicable to stem 
 cell therapies may jeopardise the establishment of public trust in this 
 emerging field in the country.
