DESCRIPTION:Celebrating the theme of “Safe care for every newborn and chi
ld”\, the RCPCH and NIHR PSRC Network (SafetyNet) are jointly running a
webinar open to everyone involved in any aspect of paediatric healthcare
. Aligning with WHO’s efforts to raise awareness\, mobilise\, and advoca
te for stronger research in this area\, the webinar asks the question\,
‘What are the challenges in paediatric patient safety\, and how do we re
spond to them?’\n\nThis is a free webinar hosted on Microsoft Teams. Whe
n you register\, we will send you a calendar invite with a link to join
the webinar via the MS Teams app or a web browser. After the webinar\, w
e will email you again with a link to watch the recording.\n\n<b>Date: 1
 7 September 2025</b>\n\n<b>Time: 13.00 - 14.00</b>\n\n[https://www.rcpch
 .ac.uk/news-events/events/patient-safety-from-the-start-rcpch-nihr-webin
ar Register for this webinar]\n\n<b>About</b>\n\nWorld Patient Safety Da
y\, observed annually on 17 September\, is a global initiative by the Wo
rld Health Organization (WHO) that brings together patients\, healthcare
providers\, policymakers\, and the public to demonstrate their commitme
nt to improving patient safety worldwide. In 2025\, the focus is on paed
iatric patient safety to ensure safe care for every newborn and child.\n
\nWith the slogan "Patient safety from the start!"\, the WHO is encourag
 ing parents\, caregivers\, healthcare professionals\, leaders\, educator
s\, and communities to \ncome together and take action to prevent avoida
ble harm in children's healthcare.\n\nUnited in this shared goal to bett
er understand and improve paediatric patient safety\, the RCPCH and Safe
tyNet – the National Institute Health and Care Research (NIHR) Patient S
afety Research Collaboration (PSRC) Network - are hosting a joint webina
r to explore the question:\n\nWhat are the challenges in paediatric pati
ent safety\, and how do we respond to them?\n\nBoth organisations are in
terested in both persistent and emerging safety issues. We know that avo
idable harm is caused to children and young people by the complexity in
the delivery of their care. The most common causes of avoidable healthca
re harm are related to medicines\, access to diagnosis and treatment rel
ated to service design\, and challenges in recognising deterioration in
sick children. \n\nThis webinar is for anyone interested in paediatric p
atient safety to listen and contribute. You will hear from speakers incl
uding Dr Peter Lachman\, Consultant Paediatrician and Patient Safety Exp
ert\, who will talk about the work done to mitigate risk and the gaps re
maining in research and practice.\n\n<b>What to expect from the webinar<
/b>\n\n- An overview of how RCPCH and NIHR PSRCs are currently tackling
paediatric patient safety\n\n- A picture of potential themes for future
paediatric patient safety research and quality improvement work\n\n- An
invitation to collaborate in the process of developing research and impr
ovement priorities for paediatric patient safety\n\n<b>What will this do
?</b>\n\nYou will be able to ask questions and contribute to the convers
ation. \n\nWe also know that discussing issues is not the same as affec
ting them. That’s why\, following this webinar\, the RCPCH and NIHR Safe
tyNet will establish a steering group to develop a priority-setting proc
ess for future research and practice areas. More details to follow.\n\n<
b>What will this do?</b>\n\nThis webinar is open to anyone interested in
improving paediatric patient safety including\, but not limited to\, cl
inicians\, health policy decision makers\, charities and families. \n\n
This webinar is hosted by RCPCH and NIHR PSRC Network (SafetyNet) and ta
kes place on World Patient Safety Day.\n
