DESCRIPTION:Part of the 2015 ESRC Festival of Social Science this event i
 s a panel discussion and exhibition (photography\, printmaking and podca
 sting)\, based around work undertaken with asylum seekers to mark the 15
 th anniversary of the UK asylum dispersal programme. This programme relo
 cates those seeking asylum to towns and cities across the country on a ‘
 no choice’ basis whilst their claims are considered by the Home Office.\
 n\nFor the last 15 years\, asylum seekers have been 'dispersed' across t
 he UK to towns and cities while they await decisions on their claims for
  sanctuary. But what do we know about their experiences of this process?
  And how have different cities responded to the needs of asylum seekers?
  This event will discuss asylum activism and accommodation\, and will sh
 owcase artworks produced in collaboration with dispersed asylum seekers 
 and podcasts in which asylum seekers and advocates discuss displacement.
  From the stories of those displaced to images of new lives starting in 
 Manchester\, this event will promote discussion about the role cities ca
 n play in welcoming those fleeing persecution.\n\nSpeakers will include:
