 enges. It is delivered in partnership with leading arts organisations\, 
 medical and academic institutions\, charities and community groups.\n\nL

 pm – 10pm.\n\nFree admission.\nAge 14+\n6 hours.\n\n\nSICK! Festival is 
 the first festival in the UK dedicated to revealing and debating our mos
 t urgent physical\, mental and social challenges. It is delivered in par
 tnership with leading arts organisations\, medical and academic institut
 ions\, charities and community groups.\n\n\nFirst presented at Art Unlim
 ited at Art Basel 37\, Switzerland\, in 2006\, the performance-installat
 ion Laughing Hole is La Ribot’s most overtly political piece. Now rework
 ed to confront the themes of sexuality\, abuse and suicide\, this 6 hour
  durational performance will fill Whitworth Art Gallery’s Grand Hall. Wr
 acked with hauntingly continuous laugher\, at times convulsive\, at time
 s forced\, three female performers sort through hundreds of cardboard pl
 acards littering the floor of the performance space. Disjointed\, confro
 ntational and provocative\, these rough placards are taped to the walls\
 , shouting out a visceral and incoherent rage. As fatigue takes over\, t
 he laughter is amplified\, resonating through architecture and intensify
 ing the piece’s already conflicted atmosphere.\n\nPerformer\, choreograp
 her ad visual artist La Ribot was born in Madrid. Her work has been pres
 ented in many theatres\, art centers\, galleries and museums around the 
 world. Her first work as La Ribot was the humorous “striptease” Socorro!
  Gloria!\, which inspired her 1994 solo series 13 piezasdistinguidas and
  the subsequent Distinguished Pieces series. In 2000 La Ribot began expe
 rimenting with video-making\, in particular\, hand-held video shot from 
 the point of view of the performer. Since 2000 she has developed numerou
 s ambitious projects\, stretching the limits of performance in scale\, c
 omplexity and intensity. In 2012 she completed EEEXEEECUUUUTIOOOOONS!!! 
 a major choreographic commission for the Ballet de Lorraine in France. S
 he continues to develop and present work across the globe.\n\n‘It is dif
