 nSustainability of Municipal Solid Waste Management in rapidly urbanizin
 g developing cities\nMunicipal Solid Waste Management (MSWM) remains a c
 hallenging issue in most developing countries\, where basic waste collec
 tion and disposal are still unavailable for many citizens\, particularly
  in informal settlements. Moreover\, the implementation of circular econ
 omy approaches has proven difficult in these contexts\, with few success
 ful initiatives from governments and recycling activities being driven a
 lmost entirely by the informal sector. Rapid urbanization has put an add
 itional pressure on the MSWM service provision in cities with already un
 stable performance\, resulting in various negative impacts to the enviro
 nment\, public health\, and quality of life.\nAs most urban public servi
 ces\, MSWM is a complex system\, with various interlinked components\, a
 nd numerous stakeholders with different and sometimes conflicting intere
 sts. Inherent characteristics of developing countries increase complexit
 y even more\, leading to the need for transdisciplinary and systemic app
 roaches in the study of MSWM’s sustainability. Thus\, an emphasis on the
  social dimension\; a balance between “hard” and “soft” systems techniqu
 es\; and the involvement of non-academic actors across the research proc
 ess\, are critical aspects in these studies. This presentation introduce
 s the application of this approach in the study of the sustainability of
  the MSWM system in Santa Cruz de la Sierra\, a rapidly urbanizing city 
 of Bolivia.\n\nDr Christine Diniz Santiago\nWaste management in the pand
 emic: obstacles\, learnings and lessons\nThe pandemic highlighted existi
 ng issues for waste management in Brazil and new ones arose. In this con
 text of disaster the goal is to reflect based on the vulnerability dimen
 sions related to waste management\, focusing on a transdisciplinary appr
 oach.\n\nPart-II\n\nDr Rafael Oliveira Costa\nThe role of prosecutors wh
 en facing a pandemic: Measures adopted in the field of public health\nDu
 e to the health crisis of COVID-19\, prosecutors´ assumed a more relevan
 t role in the field of public health. Based on best Brazilian practices\
 , this study aims to determine how the prosecution service can overcome 
 challenges and fulfill its mission\, respecting human rights and rule of
  law\, with the highest quality and efficiency.\n\nDr Nicolas Rubido\nTh
 e resistance distance as a measure to diagnose bottle-necks in transport
  networks\nTransport networks need to deal with an ever increasing traff
 ic flow. This implies designing (or modify) infrastructures such that th
 ey avoid the emergence of traffic bottle-necks\, offering some redundanc
 y for possible path diversions. In this talk\, I am going to present the
  resistance distance as a measure to quantify the presence of structural
  bottle-necks in transport networks.\n\nDr Norma Valencio\nIntersecting 
 infrasystems issues as trigger points of multifaceted crises\nBrazil has
  been moving towards the multiplication of disasters\, including those o
 f catastrophic proportions. These crises expose the problematic nexuses 
 between different infrasystems - such as sanitation\, road\, energy\, an
 d communication -\, which point to the complexity of the sectoral challe
 nges as well as the arisen of subcrises. Based on a dialogical perspecti
 ve between sociology of disasters and complex systems\, we will share ou
 r reflections on emblematic cases that occurred in this country.\n\nINFR
 A+ Rationale\nHow can infrastructure be chosen\, planned\, designed\, im
 plemented\, maintained\, enhanced and used to improve human well-being i
 n formal and informal urban areas? The sustained functioning of infrastr
 uctural systems has multiple positive effects on human health and wellbe
 ing.\n\nInfrastructure is therefore central to the UN Sustainable Develo
 pment agenda\, featuring in and contributing to most Sustainable Develop
 ment Goals (SDGs\; Goals 1\, 3\, 5-14 among others). The lack of access 
 to sanitation\, water\, transport\, energy or communication infrastructu
 re can curtail sustainable development and entrench existing or create n
 ew social inequality dynamics\, for instance in further stigmatising the
  urban poor.\n\nThe INFRA+ webinar series aims to identify links between
  context-specific infrastructural challenges\, approaches to their solut
 ion and universal mechanisms towards improved sustainability.
