Molecular Biology and Genetics underpin some of the most exciting research in the Life Sciences today. Over the last decade, molecular biologists have made enormous advances in understanding fundamental biological processes by analysing and manipulating genes and proteins. We are starting to understand the molecular basis of diseases such as cancer, and discovering how some of these conditions can be treated using genetic tools or engineered cells. Molecular Biology and Genetics, as well as being degree courses in their own right, also form part of almost all the other Life Sciences degree courses offered at Manchester. In this Discover Day you will learn about cutting-edge research in this area and use techniques employed by molecular biologists, including DNA fingerprinting!
