 8\n\nSouth Asian Modernists will explore the works of Pakistani and Indi
 an artists who worked with Victor Musgrave between 1953-63.  Musgrave ra
 n the experimental Gallery One space where India’s most eminent modernis
 ts artists were exhibited. Amongst the most important exhibitions held w
 as Seven Indian Painters in Europe (1958) which received critical acclai
 m and introduced Indian artists to the British market. South Asian Moder
 nists will reflect the pioneering efforts of Musgrave across the decade 
 to introduce South Asian Modernists. \n\nThe exhibition will draw exclus
 ively on works from the 1953-63 period\, capturing the creative atmosphe
 re of the time. The exhibition will include works by S H Raza\, Akbar Pa
 damsee\, Tyeb Mehta\, Paritosh Sen\, Avinash Chandra\, Anwar Jelal Shemz
 a\, Francis Newton Souza\, Ram Kumar and Laxman Pai. Paintings will be s
 upported by works on paper\, exhibition catalogues and photographs by th
 e renowned photographer Ida Kar\, Musgrave’s wife at the time. \n\nThe e
 xhibition is co-curated with Amrita Jhaveri\, an expert in Modern and Co
 ntemporary Indian art\, gallerist\, author and collector. Works are kind
 ly being lent by both public and private collections\, including the Hep
 worth Wakefield\, Grosvenor Gallery\, Leicestershire County Council\, Th
 e Ruth Borchard Collection c/o Piano Nobile and Lincoln College\, Oxford
 .
