DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to be celebrating the centenary year of one 
 of Britain’s most influential 20th century designers.\n\nBest-known for 
 her textiles\, Lucienne Day (1917 – 2010) is recognised as a virtuoso pa
 ttern designer and colourist. Lucienne Day was an enthusiastic gardener 
 and plant forms inspired many of her textile designs. As part of the nat
 ionwide Lucienne Day centenary celebrations\, this exhibition opens in s
 pring 2017.\n\nThe show is part of the gallery’s GROW project that promo
 tes the benefits of engaging in horticultural activities to improve ment
 al wellbeing. Groups and individuals within the local community who are 
 experiencing social isolation or dealing with issues around mental healt
 h will work with Paula Day from the Robin and Lucienne Day Foundation to
  select works to display from the Whitworth’s extensive archive of Lucie
