DESCRIPTION:'''Host:''' Institute of Population Health\n\n'''About the ev
ent:'''\n\nThe next Centre for Biostatistics seminar is taking place Mon
day 14th December at 2.30 pm in G306B Jean McFarlane Building. The speak
er will be Hui Guo.\n\nTitle: ''From association to causation: identific
ation of causal genes of immune-mediated diseases using statistical colo
 calisation''\n\n'''Abstract:'''\n\nAutoimmune diseases\, for example\, t
ype 1 diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis\, are long-term diseases due to
abnormal immune responses of the bodies. To date\, hundreds of disease-a
ssociated regions have been successfully identified through genome-wide
association studies (GWAS). Searching for shared causal signals becomes
an important part of research in genetics. Furthermore\, the mechanisms
of these associations mediated by genetic regulation is partially unders
tood.\n\nStatistical colocalisation is a way to address such issues by i
ntegrating results from different studies\, under certain assumptions. H
ui Guo will give an overview of colocalisation methods where only summar
y statistics are required. In particular\, the talk will focus on a Baye
sian approach using approximate Bayes factor. Two examples will be discu
ssed for applications: integrated analysis of disease association and ge
ne expression\, and of associations of various autoimmune diseases.
