DESCRIPTION:Encounters are central in the ways that personal and everyday
  life are lived\, in all their complexity and nuance. Even fleeting enco
 unters can matter profoundly\, and can speak to the multi-layered nature
  of the experience of living.  Encounters can be lenses for and animatio
 ns of our ways of knowing the world.  Encounters enliven debate and argu
 ment about where such knowledge comes from\, how it gains potency and vi
 tality\, and about what kinds of attentiveness to the world we need to u
 se in creating it.  \n\nIn this major conference we will be using the th
 eme of ‘encounters’ as our starting point for interdisciplinary dialogue
 .\n\nKeynote speakers:\n\n- Jackie Kay (Poet\, novelist and Professor of
  Creative Writing\, University of Newcastle) \n- Henrietta L. Moore (Pro
