DESCRIPTION:Dear Politics students\,\n \nIf you are doing research for an
essay\, project or dissertation that you find incredibly interesting an
d are desperate to share with others\, we have just the event for you! W
e will be holding our annual UofM Politics Undergraduate Research Confer
ence on Tuesday May 17th 2022. The conference will be hosted by the Poli
tics Department\, and organized with help from the student team at Junct
ure. \n \nBarring any changes to the current health and safety guideline
s\, this year’s conference will take place in person. If accepted\, you
will be placed on a panel alongside other students to present your ideas
and research to an audience of staff and students. This is a great oppo
rtunity to share your views with others\, and will look great on your CV
  too!\n \nIn order to apply\, please send a title and a short abstract (
i.e. a max 200 word summary of your research)\, along with your name and
contact details to Adrienne Roberts by April 4th. (adrienne.roberts@man
chester.ac.uk) \n \nWe will accept contributions on any topic related to
Politics and International Relations\, from students in any year of stu
dy. We anticipate that the majority of proposals will be based on final
year projects or dissertations\, but other research-based proposals are
welcome as well. Each proposal will be viewed on its merits by the organ
ising committee (made up the UG Director\, Director of the Politics & IR
Programme\, and representatives from Juncture). \n \nIn terms of next s
teps\, the processes takes place as such:\n• We will send emails
confirming acceptance to the conference in mid-April\n• Participa
nts will be asked to submit a written paper (normally 5\,000-10\,000 wor
ds) by Tuesday May 10th(one week before the conference). This can be a v
ersion (including a draft version) of your dissertation or research essa
 y. We will not be providing comments on the written version\, but would
like to be sure that our presenters are prepared and have enough content
to make a proper contribution to the conference.\n• All of the p
apers accepted onto the conference will be arranged into panels of 3-5 s
tudents\, organised by topic. On the day of the conference itself\, you
will have 10-15 minutes to present your research. After everyone has pre
sented\, there will be a Q&A period with the audience.\n \nThis will be
a friendly\, supportive opportunity to discuss your research with other
students and your teachers. It is a celebration of your research\, rathe
r than a test\, so please propose a paper and come along to see what oth
er students have been up to all year!\n \nWe look forward to hearing fro
m you and celebrating the end of the academic year at the conference.
