DESCRIPTION:For the BA Social Sciences Annual Lecture\, Helen Pankhurst w
 ill be giving a participatory lecture on \nwomen’s lives\, past\, presen
 t and future. The session will start with some reflections on the suffra
 gette \nmovement\, given her legacy\, reflect on the changes since 1918 
 and explore priorities going forward. \n\nThe lecture will be informed b
 y findings from her book Deeds Not Words: The Story of Women’s Rights\, 
 \nThen and Now.\n\nWe will be joined by Professor Jackie Carter\, who wi
 ll introduce Professor Helen Pankhurst.\n\nThis in an inclusive lecture\

 s a development and international women’s rights activist working as an 
 advisor \nto CARE International - primarily in Ethiopia and in the UK. S
 he is also a Professor at MMU and the \nFirst Chancellor of the Universi
 ty of Suffolk. She holds an honorary doctorate from Edge Hill University
  and the \nUniversity of Manchester.\nThe granddaughter of Sylvia\, grea
 t-granddaughter of Emmeline Pankhurst\, leaders of the British suffraget
 te \nmovement\, Helen carries on the legacy. This has included involveme
 nt in the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 \nLondon Olympics and in the 2015
  film Suffragette and regularly leading CARE International’s \n#March4Wo
 men march and event on or around International Women’s Day in London. \n
 \nShe convenes the Centenary Action Group (a coalition addressing barrie
 rs to women in politics) and the \nGM4Women2028 Charitable Incorporated 
 Organisation (a charity looking at data and the lives of women \nand gir
 ls in Greater Manchester). In 2018\, she published the book: Deeds Not W
 ords\, the Story of Women’s \nRights\, Then and Now.\n\n@HelenPankhurst
