About the event:
MRC Technology is an independent life science medical research charity that helps bridge the gap between basic research and commercial application. They offer an excellent collaborative funding mechanism, Call for Targets, to develop lead stage small molecules and therapeutic antibodies into novel drug targets. For more information visit www.callfortargets.org.
We are fortunate to be joined by Dr Steven Suchting, Business Development Manager at MRC Technology, who will present the scope, structure and aims of the scheme, as well provide advice on preparing successful proposals, followed by a Q&A session. We would also like to offer 15 minute 1-to-1 sessions with Dr Suchting for those who like to discuss specific project ideas in more detail. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase our expertise in small molecule and therapeutic antibody drug discovery and receive advice, and potential funding, to commercialise your research.
In summary, MRC Technology are looking for:
- Novel targets that bind to antibodies in the extracellular environment (e.g. membrane and secreted proteins), ideally where precise antigenic region of relevance is defined
- Novel small molecular targets (e.g. isolated protein or protein-protein interaction), with known biological activity that can be specifically assayed
Preferential criteria
- Not interested in targets that already been explored by pharma
- Interested in novel approaches to known targets if clear benefit
- All areas of unmet medical need
- Want strong biological rationale (e.g. cellular & physiological effects, potential side effects)
- Need understanding of mechanism of action
- Beneficial to show correlation between expression/mutation of target and disease
- Demonstrate target validation in cell-based and/or animal models
- Access to structural data, reagents, assays and models where appropriate
Please email naomi.chandler@manchester.ac.uk to confirm your place and to book a one-to-one meeting at the earliest opportunity. Meetings will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
