Memories of Syria is a new project in the works by Rethink Rebuild Society in collaboration with the artist Stephanie Gervais. In this series of videos, Syrian refugees in Manchester and throughout the UK narrate stories about life in Syria, the origins of the 2011 uprising and the country’s ensuing conflict.
The idea behind this project is to construct a living heritage piece by piece, through the many personal voices to be collected. Rethink Rebuild Society is a not-forprofit community organisation that works to inspire, strengthen and advocate for the Syrian community and help it become an effective part of British society.
(The work Odai 2: We Fought Them With The Truth, a knitted English translation of a video from this series, is on display at the Whitworth Gallery as part of the Journeys Festival Internatinoal
Takeover on June 26.)
