The Home Grown Talent Seminars@CMIST events showcase the work of Manchester-based early career researchers. In this first instalment of this series, which will be held ay lunchtime, Huw Vasey (CMIST) will deliver a talk entitled 'Immigration and integration as complex social systems: studying emergent phenomena'.
Abstract:
In this talk, I use the work I’ve been carrying out as part of the SCID project, along with my own PhD work, to explore the idea that international migration and ethnic incorporation are complex processes. Using examples from my own work, I illustrate how my understanding of these systems as non-linear and emergent developed, and how utilising tools, such as complexity science and agent-based modelling, can help our understanding of complex systems.
All welcome!
Light lunch provided.
