The first North West Advanced Drug Delivery review brings together pharmaceutical scientists and engineers from industry and academia to discuss recent developments and future trends in the field of advanced drug delivery. The meeting will review the progress being made by the North West Centre for Advanced Drug Delivery: a community of collaborations between AstraZeneca and the University of Manchester aiming to identify innovative drug delivery technologies, whilst also equipping the next generation of pharmaceutical scientists for careers in industry. An open poster session will be held in which students and research scientists from within and outside the community will get the opportunity to share their research outputs in areas of relevance. Updates on educational initiatives in the pharmaceutical sciences will also be discussed.
The first meeting will focus on emerging trends in drug delivery, including tumour targeting, nucleic acid delivery and advances in the manufacture and characterization of nanomedicines. Unmet industrial need, technical challenges and barriers to adoption which exist in each of these focus areas will be explored in detail.
