 Black History Month 2015\n\n'The impact of austerity on black and minori
 ty ethnic communities'\n\nDr Omar Khan is Director of the Runnymede Trus
 t - the UK’s leading independent race equality think tank. It generates 
 intelligence for multi ethnic Britain through research\, networking\, le
 ading debate and policy engagement.\n\nBME Matters is a new worker’s coo
 perative evolved from the Manchester BME Network to support the sustaina
 bility and strengthening of the BME community sector. Together they supp
 ort Runnymede in its vision of working to build a Britain in which citiz
 ens and communities feel valued\, enjoy equal opportunities\, lead fulfi
 lling lives and share a common sense of belonging.\n\nEarlier this year 
 the Runnymede Trust launched its research on the impact of the 2015 budg
 et on British BME citizens. It showed that four million ethnic minority 
 citizens could be worse off due to a range of budget measures that have 
 a negative and disproportionate impact on BME people.We know that inequa
 lities for BME people continue to persist nationally and locally.\n\nWha
 t can we expect from the forthcoming local spending settlements?  Furthe
 r cuts and further austerity measures?  What does it all mean for local 
 communities?\n\nThe event will be chaired by Atiha Chaudry (BME Matters 
 & BME Network) with an introduction by Dr Bridget Byrne (Project Lead in
  the Centre for Dynamics of Ethnicity (CoDE) and Senior Lecturer in Soci
 ology at the University of Manchester).\n\nDr Khan’s lecture will be fol
 lowed by a Q&A session and then refreshments.\n\nThe event is open to al
