SUMMARY:Research Matters: Multi-Level Modelling Made Easy
UID:{http://www.columbasystems.com/customers/uom/gpp/eventid/}gnf-hs1hhf5

DESCRIPTION:The use of statistics continues to play an important role in
education. However\, certain complexities in “real-world” research when
clustered data are involved are not always well understood. Examples in
clude pupils in classes\, classes within schools\, schools within commun
ities (or any other form of hierarchical grouping). This puts many studi
es at risk of potentially reporting inaccurate or misleading results. T
his presentation provides an accessible explanation around the theory an
d utility of Multi-Level Modelling (MLM) as a design issue in school-bas
ed research. Basic examples from previous studies are used to demonstra
te the utility of this statistical / design method\, and to highlight th
e dangers of not considering MLM when presented with clustered data. Th
is presentation will be of interest to practitioners and researchers wit
h an interest in the practicalities of working with clustered data\, wit
hout requiring knowledge of technical and/or statistical skills.
