 essure of the COVID-19 pandemic and a global trend of ageing populations
 \, health systems in many countries are subject to substantial budget pr
 essure. Could personalised\, digital healthcare technology allow for saf
 er\, earlier discharge from hospital and reduce NHS expenditure?\n\nIt h
 as been identified that 80% of face-to-face interactions with the NHS ar
 e unnecessary if appropriate technologies could be developed to mitigate
  these problems. To address the grand healthcare challenge\, there is an
  urgent need to develop innovative\, remote\, home based\, personalised\
 , digital healthcare technologies.\n\nThis could be achieved by engineer
 ing advanced materials into and/or onto textile fibres\, which could be 
 interfaced with the human body. Combined with internet mobile devices\, 
 cloud computational modelling and simulation of physiological and biomec
 hanical behaviours of the human body\, smooth real time healthcare monit
 oring\, diagnosis\, advice and risk/emergency warnings to patients and t
