DESCRIPTION:At this seminar\, our external speaker Dr Katerina Kavalidou\
 , a researcher at the National Suicide Research Foundation\, University 
 College Cork\, Ireland\, will present a talk titled “The role of multimo
 rbidity in self-harm and suicide”.\n\nSummary\nResearch indicates that i
 t is more likely to have middle-aged and older adults reaching health ca
 re services due to multiple health conditions\, than due to a single dis
 ease alone. The terminology used for people having multiple disorders/di
 seases\, regardless of temporality\, is multimorbidity and it is a disti
 nguished term from comorbidity - the latter always takes into account ad
 ditional health conditions to a primary one. However\, within suicide pr
 evention research the risk of suicide-related outcomes (suicidal thought
 s\, suicidal behaviours\, suicide) for those with multimorbidities has n
 ot been clearly presented\, partly due to the interchangeable use of com
 orbidity and the study designs. The current presentation will focus: a) 
 on the role of physical/mental multimorbidity in the risk of suicidal th
 oughts and behaviours (PhD outcomes)\, b) on the limitations regarding p
 ublishing relevant evidence\, and c) on some preliminary findings from a
 n ongoing meta-analysis of prospective studies investigating the associa
 tion of multimorbidity and comorbidity with the risk of suicide.\n\nFor
