 ersity of Manchester):\n\nKRASNOIARSK\, 1917: REVOLUTIONARY POWER IN THE
  RUSSIAN PROVINCES\, RECONSIDERED\n\nPower in the Russian revolution has
  often been seen as being “up for grabs”.  Following the overthrow of Ts
 arism\, rival groupings vied with one another to assert control over the
  state\, a process culminating in the overthrow of the Provisional Gover
 nment and assertion of power by the soviets in October 1917.  Drawing on
  original research from the central-Siberian city of Krasnoiarsk\, this 
 talk offers a different approach.  Rather than being simply contested by
  rivals\, it argues power at a local level was constituted and exercised
  through constant interaction between different groupings\, including th
 e city Soviet\, municipal Duma\, and myriad administrative personnel and
  organisations. \n\nDr Alistair Dickins gained his PhD at the University
  of Manchester. His thesis\, Krasnoiarsk\, 1917: The Making of Soviet Po
 wer in Central Siberia\, was written under the supervision of Professor 
 Vera Tolz and Professor Peter Gatrell. He is currently teaching undergra
 duate modules at the University of Manchester\, University of Leeds\, an
 d University of Leicester\, whilst developing his research into several 
 articles and a book manuscript.
