DESCRIPTION:You are invited to attend Professor Liam Harte's Inaugural Le
 cture\, 'Irish Biography: Singular Lives\, Plural Selves'.\nDespite bein
 g an ancient and widespread practice in Irish culture\, autobiography ha
 s received far less critical attention than the nation’s poetry\, drama 
 and prose fiction. This lecture will examine the self-representational p
 ractices that typify the genre of Irish autobiography and analyse how in
 fluential modern writers from W.B. Yeats to Nuala O’Faolain have negotia
 ted the tensions between inherited and innovative ways of scripting the 
 self.\nThe lecture’s coverage will include a focus on the dilemmas of id
 entity and belonging expressed in the autobiographical writings of autho
 rs of Irish birth and heritage in Britain.\nThe event will start at 5.00
 pm in the Lecture Theatre at the Samuel Alexander Building and there wil
 l be an opportunity to speak with Professor Harte after the lecture.\nIf
