Get behind the scenes at the Firs Environmental Research Station
As part of the Community Festival, don't miss this rare opportunity to join us for a guided tour of The Firs, the University of Manchester’s hidden botanical and environmental gem. Let yourself be transported to distant places on a tour of ‘the Range’, our series of greenhouses with different climates, including the tropics, deserts and the Mediterranean. See if you can spot orchids flowering among the tropical leaves, and meet our giant cacti and succulents. You will also hear from the atmospheric scientists who work in the Manchester Air Quality Super Site in the grounds who will talk about their research.
Joining the tour: There are two tours available which will leave by coach from the main campus (outside of the Manchester Aquatics Carpark). The Firs Environmental Research Station is approximately 20min away from the main campus in Fallowfield. Tours will take place: Tour 1: 11.30 - 12.30 and Tour 2: 14.00 - 15.00. Booking is essential. Spaces are limited. All children to be accompanied by parents/guardians.
