 present her PhD research titled “Commissioning and place-based health an
 d care: perspectives from national leaders and policymakers.” \n\nThe ab

 manchester.ac.uk \n\n\nCommissioning and place-based health and care: pe
 rspectives from national leaders and policymakers.\n\n\nThe concept of "
 place" within health and care has been long-standing in the English NHS 
 in 1) acting as a unit for the planning and delivery of health and care 
 and 2) determining the relationship between local health and care partne
 rs and the communities they serve. The recent publication of the governm
 ent’s integration white paper further reinforced the primacy of place as
  the footprint for integration of health and care and joint decision-mak
 ing closer to local communities\, with a move towards a single “place-ba
 sed” leader responsible for health and care delivery and outcomes. For t
 he NHS\, this is significant departure from the current regime of organi
 sational-based accountability and heavily centralised regulation. In thi
 s presentation\, Melissa will present her findings to date from semi-str
 uctured interviews with national health and care leaders on the current 
 policy and legislative changes\, how these are being implemented\, and w
 hat the next steps might look like in the organisation of place-based he
 alth and care.\n
