DESCRIPTION:Music and Migration: Songs Performance\nSaturday 16 November\
n2-4pm \nVisit the Museum for a celebration of Bengali folk music in the
North West. The exhibition will recall how singing was of vital import
ance to Bangladeshi immigrants arriving to work in its mills and factori
es in the 1950s and 1960s. Young people are particularly welcome to come
along and experience how collective singing of and listening to these s
ongs provided critical succour to their forefathers in a time of displac
ement and upheaval\nCome and have a look at the range of very different
kinds of instruments used in Bangla music\, from the perhaps better know
n harmonium and tabla to the much lesser known ektara and khomok. The so
unds they produce will astonish and please you.\nFolk Music Performance
by Krishnochura\nPartners: The Greater Manchester Bangladeshi Associatio
 n\, the Al-Habeeb Foundation\, Krishnochura and Manchester Museum\nThis
event is part of the Being Human festival\, the UK’s only national fest
ival of the humanities\, taking place 14–23 November.\n
