DESCRIPTION:Join staff\, students and the local community in marking Blac
 k History Month 2018\nOn Wednesday 3 October\, come along to University 
 Place for the University’s event for Black History Month\, ‘Brilliant an
 d BAME’. \n\nThis year’s event will recognise and celebrate the signific
 ant contribution that people from BAME backgrounds have made to Manchest
 er and Britain. SuAndi\, local-born poet and writer and our keynote spea
 ker\, will be discussing this theme.\n\nStaff and students will be speak
 ing about projects which promote equality\, diversity and inclusion as p
 art of the University Showcase. A series of lightening talks will includ
 e The Works\, the Diversity ambassadors scheme\, the University’s latest
  submission for the Race Equality Charter Mark\, and what the Students U
 nion are doing to support race equality.  \n\nBetween 12-2pm\, there wil
 l be more opportunities and initiatives to find out about in the main ex
 hibition outside University Place and the Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Race Relatio
 ns Resource Centre and the John Rylands University Library will have dis
 plays from their archives.\nTo make this a real celebration\, there will
  be live music from local artists\, street food stalls and an art exhibi
 tion.\nWe will have our University and Students’ Union joint project Spe
 ak Up Stand Up launching their first event of the year\, the Speak Up! S
 tand Up! Emotive Art Exhibition\, which will take place in the Universit
