DESCRIPTION:This event invites participants from all disciplines and back
 grounds to come together\, fostering interdisciplinary connections and d
 iscussions.\n\nTalk Title: Autonomous Machines as Moral Arbiters \n\nArt
 ificial Intelligence has enabled the automation of cognitive tasks. The 
 more able autonomous machines are\, and the more they share the same env
 ironment as us\, the more they need to be enabled to have moral abilitie
 s: moral judgment\, moral reasoning and moral decision-making. In the la
 st 25 years\, the field of machine ethics has been concerned with develo
 ping these machine abilities. Machine ethics requires knowledge from mor
 al philosophy\, moral psychology\, artificial intelligence\, human-compu
 ter interaction\, computer science and autonomous systems. What kind of 
 a moral agent should machines be and whose idea of morality should they 
 implement? This talk presents a broad\, multi-disciplinary\, description
  of advancements\, challenges and open questions in machine ethics.\n\nS
 peaker Biography:\n\nMarija Slavkovik is a full Professor with the Facul
 ty for Social Sciences of the University of Bergen. She is currently a L
 everhulme Visiting Professor. with the Autonomy and Verification Group (
 Uni.Manchester). Her background is in computer science and artificial in
 telligence. She has been doing research in machine ethics since 2012. Ma
 rija works on formalising ethical collective decision-making. She has he
 ld held several seminars\, tutorials and graduate courses on AI ethics.
