DESCRIPTION:An Inaugural Lecture by Professor Carolyn Abbot\n\nEnvironmen
 tal NGOs contribute to the regulatory space in a variety of ways. They c
 an be \ninvolved in shaping the rules of regulation by participating in 
 both the drafting of law and \npolicy frameworks within which regulation
  is developed and\, more directly\, in the setting \nof environmental st
 andards. \n\nEnvironmental NGOs have a clear role to play in enforcing t
 hose rules both formally (by \nbringing private prosecutions) and inform
 ally (through the use of ‘naming and shaming’ \nstrategies) And\, perhap
 s most controversially\, NGOs can be formally co-opted by the \nstate as
  regulatory surrogates. Their role in regulation is both important and v
 aluable.\n \nIn this lecture\, Professor Abbot will focus on larger\, pr
 ofessional\, centralised and well-\nresourced environmental NGOs and ref
 lect upon the factors that constrain and enhance \ntheir involvement in 
 environmental regulation.\n\nThe event will be in person and online via
