The Make Do and Mend Expo
This one day event, including interactive workshops, presentations and discussions, is the culmination of two years research by Dr Helen Holmes, University of Manchester, exploring ‘being thrifty’.
It brings together provisioning organisations, academics, policymakers and interested members of the public to discuss how third sector organisations are tackling social inequalities and environmental challenges, and to provide good practice guidance for moving forward.
Funded by University of Manchester, Hallsworth Endowment Fund, Morgan Centre for Research into Everyday Lives and an Engaging Our Communities Award.
The programme includes:
09.00-09.30 Reception
09.30-09.45 Welcome by Dr Helen Holmes
09.45-10.30 Keynote by Jen Gale of My Make do and Mend Life
10.30-11.30 Organisational presentations - Real Junk Food Project, Todmorden Food Bank, Stubbylee Community Gardens, Three Valley Vegans
11.30-12.30 Workshops, including: Rework your clothes and upcycling by Stitched Up Chorlton, seed sharing by Dr Laura Pottinger (UoM), and financial capability by Rossendale & Hyndburn CAB.
12.30-13.30 Lunch including clothes swap, book swap and The Everyday Austerity Exhibition by Dr Sarah Marie Hall (UoM)
13.30-14.45 Organisational presentations by Incredible Edible, First Choice Credit Union, Fareshare/Recycling Lives, Positive Start Food Group
14.45-15.00 Break
15.00-16.00 Kitchen Table Discussion
16.00-16.15 Summary and close
