SUMMARY:Dynamic models of cellular metabolism – an uncertain perspective

DESCRIPTION:Dynamic models of metabolism are powerful tools to understand
cellular biology\, develop medical interventions to treat disease\, and
to help engineering biological systems with new functionalities. The qu
ality of the model predictions depends on the reliability of the kinetic
parameter information used to construct the models. However\, in contra
st to other areas\, such as climate modelling\, the uncertainty of param
eter information is rarely systematically explored in biological models
of metabolism. In my talk I will present our work on the explicit incorp
oration of parameter uncertainty in systems biology and illustrate it us
ing examples from central energy metabolism in protozoan parasites. I wi
ll also discuss applications in other areas of systems biology\, such as
the modelling of signal transduction pathways\, and in synthetic biolog
 y. \n\nA Gene Regulation and Cellular Biotechnology Science for Breakfas
 t seminar.\nContact Graham Pavitt for further information.\n
