 ois distinguished l-modular representation of p-adic GL(n)\n\nAbstract:\
 nI will present some results on Galois distinguished l-modular represent
 ations of p-adic GL(n)\, with l not p\, that is on l-modular representat
 ions which admit a linear form invariant by the fixed points subgroup of
  a Galois involution.  This theory displays sharp contrasts to the well-
 studied case for complex representations. In particular\, we will see (1
 ) distinction of cuspidal representations is no longer characterised by 
 the associated Asai L-function having a pole at 1\, and (2) certain natu
 rally defined local periods can vanish.  This is joint work with Nadir M
