DESCRIPTION:The Global Development Institute is pleased to present Prof D
ani Rodrik of Harvard University to present the Global Development Insti
tute Annual Lecture. Prof Rodrik will discuss the economics of populism.
\n\n"Populism seems to have come out of nowhere\, but economic history a
nd theory provide ample grounds for anticipating that globalisation will
produce political backlash. But while the backlash may have been predic
table\, the specific form it took was less so. \nProf Dani Rodrik will d
istinguish between left-wing and right-wing variants of populism - the f
irst predominant in Latin America and the second in Europe - and how and
why these reactions differ."\n\nThis lecture is part of the Global Deve
lopment Lecture Series which brings experts involved in global developme
nt to The University of Manchester. It aims to facilitate dialogue and d
iscussion\, providing a space for leading development thinkers to share
their latest research and ideas.\n\nLectures are followed by an audience
Q&A\n\nAll lectures are live streamed on the Global Development Institu
te Facebook page: www.facebook.com/globaldevinst\n\nThis event is open t
 o members of the public.
