Exploring and Explaining a Two-Mode Core/Periphery Structure in a Musicking Network
In this presentation I will discuss two studies, both substantively focused upon trans-local music worlds and both analytically focused upon core-periphery structures. The first is a study of underground heavy metal in the UK. The second is a study of university-based musical festivals in Turkey. The presentation will discuss the significance and likely causes of core-periphery divides in trans-local music worlds and will demonstrate the recently suggested (by Everett and Borgatti) 'dual projection' approach to two-mode core-periphery models.
