Making Marigolds and Remembrances
Making Marigolds and Remembrances
Sat 13 Apr – 11.30am – 3.30pm
In India, marigolds have cultural and religious significance, and are used for making garlands and offerings for rituals, temples and festivals. This weekend marks the important Sikh Festival of Baisakhi/Vaisakhi, which is a Spring Harvest Festival that is celebrated in Punjab in India.
This date also marks the 100 year anniversary of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, and as marigolds are often associated with remembrance, we are making marigolds today to commemorate this event. You can find out more about the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre in the ‘Jallianwala Bagh 1919: Punjab under Siege’ exhibition on Manchester Museum’s 3rd Floor.
