Experiences working as a CTU statistician
Abstract:
As a result of Manchester CTU’s recent move into The University of Manchester, David Ryder and Yvonne Sylvestre have joined the Biostatistics Group’s Collaboration Unit as Senior Statisticians. A key part their Senior Statistician role is to act as ‘Trial Statistician’.
Chris Sutton is Senior Lecturer in Clinical Trial Statistics within the Biostatistics Group and, as a key part of his role, provides methodological leadership within the CTU. He also co-ordinates the delivery of the statistics input for approximately 25 trials on the CTU portfolio, including trials in cancer, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and other diseases and conditions; most of these have either David or Yvonne as ‘Trial Statistician’.
Chris, David and Yvonne will present on their own individual roles and experiences as CTU statisticians and methodologists, with particular emphasis on aspects specific to working as part of a CTU. Their presentations will include examples of CTU trials, and how the statistics team works together and with the other CTU teams. Chris’ presentation will also explore key aspects the newly-implemented ‘Statistical Principles’ SOP and its impact on the work and organisation of the team, including others in the Biostatistics Group Collaboration Unit delivering the CTU statistics input.
