DESCRIPTION:This lecture will focus on the role of Egyptian women in the 
 visual public sphere during the inter-war period in the 20th century\, a
 s well as their extended role during and after the 2011 Egyptian revolut
 ion. The theory of visibility as a site of performativity for social pra
 ctices and relations between women opens up new perspectives and methods
  for the exploration of areas previously neglected in the fields of cult
 ural studies and gender and women’s studies.\n
