DESCRIPTION:\nDr Tim Meadows (Geography\, SEED\, University of Manchester
 )\n\nModelling decadal-scale morphological evolution of the upper North 
 Fork Toutle River\, Mount St Helens\, USA\n\nAbstract:\nManagement of se
 diment-related hazards following large explosive eruptions is currently 
 hampered by limited understanding of the nature and duration of long-ter
 m fluvial geomorphic response in affected catchments. Reduced complexity
 \, landscape evolution models offer a potential means of developing quan
 titative\, process-based predictions which can be used to inform sustain
 able management efforts. However\, these models have been criticised for
  the simplified ways in which they represent processes and their applica
 bility in practice has yet to be fully demonstrated. This seminar descri
 bes an evaluation of the CAESAR-Lisflood landscape evolution model in th
 e volcanically-disturbed upper North Fork Toutle River catchment\, and p
 resents predictions of morphological evolution and resultant sediment yi
 eld to the end of this century.\n\nBio:\nTim is a fluvial geomorphologis
 t with particular interest in how rivers respond to natural and human-in
 duced disturbances. His current research is focused on using numerical m
 odels to better understand processes of river change in severely disturb
 ed catchments over timescales relevant to planning and management. Prior
  to joining the University of Manchester in 2016\, Tim obtained a PhD fr
 om the University of Nottingham before working as a geomorphologist for 
 the Scottish Environment Protection Agency and the Environment Agency.\n
