Would you like to make your work easier, more inclusive and appealing to more people? Why not come along to this interesting and innovative workshop organised by the Women In Environmental Sciences (WiES) network titled: Connectivity and inclusivity in Higher Education EDIA.
There is a great need for equality, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA) initiatives to recognise lived experiences as essential to sharing of knowledge and to directly inform practice. By using the University of Manchester, UK as a case study, this workshop will
- explore the diverse aspects of connectivity through leadership, teaching, learning and workings of our institution.
- explore co-production of knowledge and practices by members of the UoM community;
- identify synergies, interactions, and conflicts of EDIA to connectedness and inclusivity and, act on co-created ways to redress them.
- aim to promote genuine inclusion and diversity in real life.
Format of delivery: Follow up from workshop 1(held in April 2022)- Guest Presentations, Outcomes/Evaluation, Knowledge Exchange Sessions and, a Call To Action.
Target audience: EDI practitioners, academics and non-academics, students, researchers from the University of Manchester comprising people of diverse ages, ethnicities, career stages; and friends of University of Manchester, UK community.

Ms. Oyebanji (Banji) Adewunmi, Director of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at The University of Manchester, UK. Ms. Adewunmi is a highly skilled and very experienced professional who brings her expertise and professionalism into her work and other activities. One of her notable achievements is the EDI initiative at the Barts Health NHS trust in London. Banji will present her talk on "Beyond data collection: Can we really achieve equal opportunities in higher education?"
Ms. Adèle MacKinlay, Director of People and Organisational Development, The University of Manchester, UK. Ms. MacKinlay is a highly skilled and experienced professional whose achievements have been recorded at both higher educational and, at financial institutions. Adèle will present her talk "Appreciating Diversity: A strategy for effective connectivity and community development".
Dr Cindy Regalado, Director and Managing Director of Tekiu Limited. The company provides a range of knowledge transfer and capacity building solutions that help you to benchmark and innovate through the power of diversity, sectoral exchange, connectivity and cultural translation. Cindy is a member of the NERC-funded Engaging Environments project and is the evaluator for the project "Connectivity and inclusivity in higher education". Dr Regalado will present the outcomes of and the work behind the scenes of our Connectivity and inclusivity in higher education workshop 1 using Principles-Focused Evaluation.
Dr Cecilia Medupin, Senior Lecturer, Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences, University of Manchester, UK. Nationally, Cecilia is the convener of Women in Environmental Sciences (WiES), a co-investigator on the NERC's funded Community for Engaging Environments project. Cecilia brings her experience of being an African woman with diverse experience of living and working in the UK. She is the convener and principal investigator for the pilot study on Connectivity and Inclusivity in Higher Education- A solutions- based approach.
