He won the Inte rnational Society of Hypertension Outstanding Young Investigator Award i n 1988 and delivered the Royal College of Physicians’ Goulstonian Lectur e in 1990. He is a former President of the European Society of Hyperten sion. Until recently he was President of the British Hypertension Societ y (2011-13)\, having served as Vice-President since September 2009 and p rior to that President of the International Society of Hypertension (200 8-2010). He is a Member of the Nominations Committee for the Royal Colle ge of Physicians and serves on the Boards of the Journal of Clinical Met abolism and Diabetes\, Therapeutic Advances in Cardiovascular Disease\, The Open Cardiovascular Medicine Journal\, Experimental Physiology\, Cur rent Hypertension Reviews\, Journal of Hypertension\, Hypertension\, Dia betes and Vascular Disease Research and Blood Pressure. \n\nHe is a gran t reviewer for Health Boards in New Zealand\, France\, Italy and Holland . In 2006 he received from the European Society of Hypertension the Folk ow Award for his studies of the physiology of the circulation in hyperte nsion and in 2007 was Lecturer of the Year and toured Hypertension Centr es in Belgium. His clinical interests are in high blood pressure and car diovascular diseases. He is a Founding Member of the Academy of Medical Sciences. He originally described the concept of structural alterations in the circulation associated with high blood pressure and is currently Head of the Cardiac Research Group within the newly constituted [http:// www.cardiovascular.manchester.ac.uk/ Institute of Cardiovascular Science s] in Manchester. He is an international authority on high blood pressur e\, aetiology and management. Following completion of her PhD\, she was appointed as Clin ical Lecturer and received a University of Manchester Stepping Stones Fe llowship to enable continuation of her work related to pre-eclampsia. In 2012\, Jenny was awarded a five-year NIHR Clinician Scientist Fellowshi p to fund a programme of work related to hypertension in pregnancy. \n \nJenny’s research focuses on pre-eclampsia and maternal medical disease in pregnancy\, particularly hypertension and diabetes and spans basic s cience\, translational and clinical studies centred around women with hy pertension and diabetes recruited through her Manchester Antenatal Vascu lar Service (MAViS) clinic.
