 logy\n\n"Outcome prediction in trauma"\n\nTrauma is the leading cause of
  death amongst the young population (18 – 40 yrs).  TARN is the largest 
 trauma registry in Europe (400\,000 records)\, its role is to help emerg
 ency health care systems to improve the care of their trauma patients by
  providing them with useful information regarding their performance usin
 g different indicators and process measures.  I will be presenting the s
 tatistical methods used for hospitals outcome performance by means of a 
 directly standardised statistic: Ws\, that represents the excess survivo
 r rate per 100.  Outcome performance will be displayed using caterpillar
  and funnel plots where hospital outliers will be identified.  A graphic
 al representation based on CUSUM technique and variable life adjusted di
 splay (VLAD) that signal bad and good runs will be presented.\n\n
