Ali Smith in conversation with Kamila Shamsie
Well, that’s what art is, maybe. Something that impresses mysteriously on you and you don’t know why.
Over the past four years, Ali Smith has created both a work of art and a chronicle of our times with the Seasonal Quartet: Autumn, Winter, Spring, Summer. As Summer brings the series to a close through its consideration of time, memory, connection, history, Brexit, lockdown, art and protest, we have a very special screening to celebrate Ali’s work. Directed by filmmaker Sarah Wood and featuring audio of Ali in conversation with novelist Kamila Shamsie, this special film for Manchester Literature Festival will include visuals taken by Sarah, Ali and Kamila, and will only be available to watch at the time it is screened.
Ali is the author of five short story collections and nine novels, including How to be both which won the Women’s Prize for Fiction, the Goldsmith’s Prize, the Costa Novel Award and was shortlisted for the Booker Prize.
A Manchester Literature Festival event presented in partnership with the Centre for New Writing and Creative Manchester.
Approximate running time 30–45 minutes. This event will ONLY BE AVAILABLE TO WATCH ONCE AT THE TIME OF BROADCAST. Please log in a few minutes early so you don't miss the beginning of the film.
