DESCRIPTION:The aim of this interactive workshop is to explore data reani
mation as a qualitative research method. The focus will be on creative\,
participatory and innovative ways of working with archived qualitative
research materials for the purpose of secondary analysis\, historical en
quiry and / or data collection.\n\nDuring the workshop we will explore d
ifferent theoretical and disciplinary traditions informing data reanimat
ion and consider the ethical challenges and possibilities of reanimating
qualitative data sets.\n\nWe discuss what data reanimation is and consi
der the benefits and affordances of using this method of enquiry. In par
ticular we will consider how this approach 1) enables creativity\, refle
xivity\, experimentation and innovation in research\, 2) creates opportu
nities to engage non-specialist audiences and communities in collaborati
ve secondary analysis\, data collection and/or public engagement 3) enga
ges critically with ideas around social change and continuity.\n\nThis i
s an active workshop that will invite participants to experiment with re
animating qualitative data using different methods. Participants will be
encouraged to bring their own research materials with them where possib
le or work with archived data provided by the workshop facilitators. We
will consider how to reanimate data ethically and with care and share ex
amples of how this has been done in recent research and community projec
ts. \n\nThe course will run on Zoom 10am-4pm (BST). Please bring scisso
rs\, glue\, paper and some of your own research material.
