DESCRIPTION:'HMXIF offline scanning capabilities\, research examples of h
ow different HMXIF equipment was used and why.'\n\n\nThis is the fifth s
eminar in the University of Manchester at Harwell Ideas Forum Imaging se
ries. The aim of this series is to increase networking of academics and
researchers across the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the Natio
nal Laboratories. In doing so\, we hope to link experienced users with n
ew users to teach them about the University of Manchester and the Harwel
l National Facilities.\n\nDr Tim Burnett\, Director of The University of
Manchester's Henry Moseley X-ray Imaging facility (HMXIF) and the Natio
nal Research Facility for Lab X-ray CT (NXCT.ac.uk) will talk about the
capabilities of lab-based X-ray computed tomography (CT). He will introd
uce X-ray CT as a technique and talk about multiscale and in situ imagin
g from the nanoscale to the macroscale. He will describe some of the bas
ic requirements for doing nanoscale and microscale imaging and how the d
ifferent scales can be used correlatively and also connected to other te
chniques such as focussed ion beam (FIB) serial sectioning. Also he will
discuss the considerations for setting up in situ experiments using la
b CT. He will cover examples from biomaterials\, composites\, aerospace
and nuclear alloys and geology. Lastly he will talk about the data analy
sis challenges that you often have to face when dealing with multiscale
and in situ experiment data\n\n\n\nThis seminar will be recorded and ava
ilable to watch after the event.\nA zoom link will be sent to attendees
 the day before the seminar.
