 ver before but what does it take for institutions to commit to the uncon
 ditional return of cultural heritage items and ancestral human remains t
 o originating communities and traditional owners? Stephen Welsh will dra
 w on his professional experience of participating in several repatriatio
 n cases\, including the recent unconditional return of 43 secret sacred 
 and ceremonial objects to Australia's First Nations peoples from Manches
 ter Museum\, and consider what fundamental changes need to happen to emb
 ed this crucial work.\n\nAbout the speaker:\n\nStephen Welsh is an indep
 endent curator and consultant with over 15 years of working in museums. 
 He was the Curator of Living Cultures\, The University of Manchester\, f
 rom 2007. He was responsible for ensuring access to a collection of over
  18\,000 ethnographic objects from Africa\, America\, Asia and Oceania. 
 Until recently he was also Deputy Head of Collections and leading the de
 velopment of Manchester Museum’s forthcoming South Asia Gallery in partn
 ership with Manchester’s South Asian communities and the British Museum.
  Previously he was Project Curator at the International Slavery Museum\,
  National Museum Liverpool\, from 2005 to 2007.\n\nPhoto caption: On the
