DESCRIPTION:(via Zoom)\nJoin us for this seminar by Florien Pein (Cambrid
ge) as part of the North West Seminar Series in Mathematical Biology and
Data Sciences. Details of the full series can be found here https://www
 .cms.livjm.ac.uk/APMSeminar/\n\nPlease contact carl.whitfield@manchester
.ac.uk or I.Siekmann@ljmu.ac.uk for the zoom link\, or sign up to the ma
iling list.\n\nAbstract: The voltage patchclamp technique is a fundament
al tool for the quantitative analysis of electrophysiological processes
of transmembrane proteins\, in particular of ion channels. Analysis of p
atchclamp recordings is often a challenging issue. In this talk we prese
nt a very general non-parametric model for such recordings. Based on thi
s model we provide fully automatic model-free idealisation methods or in
statistical words non-parametric estimation methods. Patchclamp recordi
ngs are typically lowpass filtered to suppress high-frequent noise compo
nents. Hence\, a major point of our approaches is to take the filtering
into account explicitly.\nIn a second step\, we show how idealisations a
llowing us to obtain biochemical relevant information about the underlyi
ng gating dynamics. Finally\, we discuss advantages and disadvantages of
model-free approaches in comparison to hidden Markov model approaches a
nd explain how they complement each other. Our methods are available as
an R-package and as a graphical user interface.\n\nTo subscribe to the m
