Co-production, commissioners and collective knowledge brokering: how an embedded team made a difference.
Research is rarely informed by policy-making and policy-making rarely draws on research. To address this, as part of a NIHR Knowledge Mobilisation Research Fellowship, Dr Lesley Wye led a knowledge brokering team of researchers and local healthcare commissioners who were embedded in each other's organisations. The aim of the team was to facilitate commissioner-researcher collaborations, ideally leading to the co-production of more relevant research bids and commissioner-led service evaluations. This presentation will cover the rationale behind setting the team up, provide examples of the work carried out, discuss what worked (and what didn't) and talk about its impact.
Dr Lesley Wye is a Senior Research Fellow at Bristol Medical School, where she holds a NIHR Knowledge Mobilisation Research Fellowship. Her interest in bringing together research and policy-making dates from previous posts in the Department of Health and the King's Fund. For three years, she led the Bristol Knowledge Mobilisation team made up of embedded researchers and healthcare commissioners.
A light luncheon will be served at 12:00, with the presentation commencing at 12:15.
